QUICK FACTS:
BEING A GREAT LEADER IN THE NEW LANDSCAPE OF COLLEGE SPORTS…
After retiring from playing football, Haven became a Graduate Assistant at his alma mater where he found his love for Athletic Development and Fundraising. He then went on to build a Division 1 Football program for the University of South Alabama where Joe Gotfried took him under his wing and molded him. Before coming to Nebraska with Troy Dannen, Haven also worked at the University of Illinois, Ball State University, and the University of Washington.
Haven feels the greatest opportunity and importance right now is the expansion of diversity in upper-level administrative roles for people of color. He is honored to be in the position he holds and to help develop young professionals. He also looks forward to working with the very talented professionals at Nebraska and being a part of the exponential growth of the new business side of college sports. He leads his team to navigate and balance the business and academic process for the student-athletes.
His favorite memory as an athlete was when he was a sophomore at Auburn in 1997, playing Alabama and beating them with a game winning field goal. As a spectator, his favorite memory is going to Glendale, AZ in 2010 to watch the Auburn Tigers beat Oregon in the championship.
BEYOND THE EVENTS:
Haven was a student-athlete at Auburn University from 1996-1999 playing the Linebacker position there and professionally in the Canadian Football League before he retired in 2004.
Haven has a beautiful family he loves to spend time with outside of work and who brings him the most joy. He’s looking forward to his wife, Dr. Mya (Assistant Dean at Purdue) and his two sons Haven Jr. (7) and Hendrix (5) following him to Nebraska as they make a new home there.
Haven was raised in Miami, FL by his Mom who taught him to never make excuses and to work hard, no matter what the job entails.
